In the fourth Supertwins story, Timmy and Tabby must save the day when the "sneaky, slimy book worms" make off with the entire school's books. (To eat? To slime? To hide? It's unclear.) In a somewhat incomprehensible proclamation, the head worm cries, "Kids can't learn without books. They will forget everything. Then . . . we will take over the world!" Tabby hates worms, but she still manages to shrink them by shooting sunbeams out of her hands. Once the worms are banished to a small jar, the twins return the books to the school. Demarest's colorful cartoons of the giant, green-toothed book worms and their knee-high nemeses are as over-the-top as the story. An appended reading fluency test calls out new vocabulary words and similarly spelled words in this slim, somewhat perplexing book with high gross-out value. Karin Snelson
