From School Library Journal:
Grade 7 Up-- Highly readable and well researched, these concise, profusely illustrated British imports should encourage readers to delve further into the subjects being surveyed. Identical in format and concept, each volume features well-captioned illustrations, many in color, along with maps, graphs, pithy quotations, and biographical sketches of leading figures. Short chapters are devoted to delineating some aspect of topic being covered. Heater points out that East-West relations have been characterized by "hatred, fear and suspicion, since at least the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917"; the waxing and waning of the Cold War is observed up to the beginning of Mikhail Gorbachev's tenure in office. Ross emphasizes that the origins of World War I were complex; however, he concludes that the war was not necessarily inevitable. --David A. Lindsey, Lakewood Junior/Senior High School, WA
