This book discusses the various mechanisms by which food can trigger autoimmunity, thus turning a patient's own immune system against him. Readers will learn about the vital role of oral tolerance in immunity, the history of food allergy testing, difference between food allergy and food immune reactivity, the gut-brain-immune system axis, and discover how the blood-brain barrier and its integrity is connected to neuroautoimmunity and neurodegeneration. It ends with concrete workable suggestions on how to repair or restore broken immunity, or maintain a healthy immune system. This book is for medical or health care practitioners whose patients have puzzling symptoms and test results that are difficult to explain; it will help practitioners give patients the answers, diagnosis, care and treatment that they deserve, and can help to prevent, halt, or even reverse the course of autoimmune disease in patients, saving them from what could be an unhappy lifetime of suffering

Aristo Vojdani, PhD, MSc, CLS, obtained his MSc and PhD in the fields of microbiology and clincal immunology from Bar-Ilan University in Israel with postdoctoral studies in comparative immunology at UCLA and tumor immunology at Charles Drew/UCLA School of Medicine and Science. He is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Dept. of Preventive Medicine at Loma Linda University in California, and an Adjunct Professor at the Lincoln College of Professional, Graduate and Continuing Education at the National University of Health Sciences. His ongoing research focuses on the role of environmental triggers in complex diseases. Dr. Vojdani's research has resulted in the development of more than 300 antibody assays for the detection of autoimmune disorders and other diseases. He holds fifteen US patents for laboratory assessments of immune disorders associated with the brain and gut, has published more than 170 articles in magazines and scientific journals, and has just published the book "Neuroimmunity and the Brain-Gut Connection" with Nova Science Publishers. He is the CEO and Technical Director of Immunosciences Lab in Los Angeles, California, and is also the Chief Scientific Advisor for Cyrex Labs in Phoenix, Arizona. Dr. Vojdani sits on the editorial board of five scientific journals. Over the years he has received the Herbert J. Rinkel Award, the Linus Pauling, PhD Award, the F. R. Carrick Research Institute's Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Personalized Lifestyle Medicine Institute Lifetime Achievement Award.
Elroy Vojdani, MD, DABR, IFMCP, is the founder of Regenera Medical, a boutique Functional Medicine practice in Los Angeles, California. He is a licensed medical doctor, an Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Functional Practitioner (IFMCP), and a certified Bredesen ReCODE Practitioner. After witnessing his father's groundbreaking work to help pave a better and more informed pathway to practice medicine, Elroy realized that medicine was his single passion. After graduating from high school, he applied and was accepted to medical school. Upon graduating medical school from the University of Southern California and completing his residency at Keck School of Medicine, Dr. Elroy Vojdani began his career as an Interventional Radiologist, diagnosing and treating complex, late-stage cancers and other extremely debilitating diseases. While this experience gave him unique insights into how radiology testing is done and interpreted, his desire to stop disease before it reached the point of becoming a chronic illness remained at the core of his desire to practice medicine. Over the years, Dr. Elroy Vojdani has applied everything he has learned to his own health. For instance, during medical school he was constantly fighting mental fatigue and fog and suffering from multiple bouts of nasal sinus infection. A simple blood test (at the time only adopted by functional and alternative practices) revealed that he had significant immune reactivity to dairy and gluten. After following a dairy and gluten elimination diet his symptoms entirely disappeared, and he felt as he had a new lease on life! Today, he continues in his father's footsteps - pioneering to find answers to medical conditions that go undiagnosed and untreated. Each day in his practice, Dr. Elroy Vojdani meets patients that are at their wit's end trying to find the cause of their chronic medical condition(s). Based on his medical training, along with his background in radiology, and his deep understanding of how blood tests are created and conducted, he is able to accurately diagnose patients and then create customized and effective treatment plans. Dr. Elroy Vojdani believes that Functional Medicine is, without a doubt, the future of medicine - and he is passionate about sharing his teachings and practices of this life changing medicine with his patients.
If you follow the Vojdanis’ advice as described in this book, you will be able to prevent, halt, or even reverse the course of autoimmune disease in your patients, saving them from what could be an unhappy lifetime of suffering. - Edwin L. Cooper, PhD, ScD
There are a few books that a health professional reads in their lifetimes that are considered “seminal”. It is my belief that Drs. Aristo and Elroy Vojdani’s book “Food-Associated Autoimmunities: When Food Breaks Your Immune System” is one of them. - Jeffrey Bland, PhD, FACN, FACB, CNS
This book will open the eyes of many readers. While some of the recommendations are clearly on the ‘cutting edge,’ I encourage you to use these approaches in clinical practice. Your patients will thank you! - Patrick Hanaway, MD
There is a wealth of information in this book that explains so much about autoimmunity, and many a puzzled practitioner will find the answers to their questions here. - Mark Hyman, MD
This book now serves as the "Gold Standard" for the relationship between food and autoimmunity and further supports his undisputed position as the "Father of Functional Immunology." - Datis Kharrazian, PhD, DHSc, DC, MS, MMSc, FACN
This book is the most extensive piece of work that I have read on this subject. As an author of many books on autoimmunity, I read this book avidly and ended it with an admiration for the authors and their encyclopedic knowledge. - Yehuda Shoenfeld, MD, FRCP, MaACR
This book is a masterpiece, a work of art. It’s a massive, comprehensive labor of love that tries to explain all the different ways in which the very stuff we depend on for life can go horribly wrong and threaten our health and even that very life. This is a must-read for practitioners and patients alike. - Michael Maes, MD, PhD
Drs. Aristo and Elroy Vojdani not only powerfully relate these diseases to inappropriate responses to various food challenges, but in addition, they provide a long awaited game plan for understanding how laboratory analysis can help create a plan that can allow individuals to finally overcome these maladies. -David Permutter, MD, FACN
For anyone interested in the critical role of the immune system in disease, this book is a must-read. - Dale E. Bredesen, MD
When you finish reading this book, there are at least 3 things you will want to do. First, you will make a mental note to read it again very soon; second, you will want to integrate the information you learned into your own life and that of your family’s; and third, you will start using this information right away in the diagnosis and treatment of your patients. Dr. Vojdani has written a masterpiece. - Andrew W. Campbell, MD
