This book describes the life of Ben, a biracial infant adopted at four months of age, and who was diagnosed with autism at age 4. We learn of his family's commitment to his full inclusion in school, his community and into the stressful world of work. As Ben travels through his school years and after graduation from high school, there are difficult situations, abuse, and trauma. But, there is also love, friendship, accomplishments that reflect a good life spent with his family and peers. As a 20 year old, Ben moves into his own home and starts a wood working business with the help of his family and a human service agency dedicated to providing individualized services. Now at age 36, Ben lives in his home home (with support), and continues with his work which he loves. Worried about his future, after they die, his parents describe how they established trusts to protect his home and himself. This is not a book offering professional discussions of autism, but a book that shares the family's experiences and the gifts that their son has given them.

Review:
Beautiful Ben - My Son with Autism; is the story of a caring family who adopted and raised an autistic child. The book, written by Ben's mother, tell of the families trials, tribulations, and joys as they raised Ben whom they love so dearly. The book is well written and is worth reading by anyone who cares about children wand who struggles to provide appropriate life and educational experiences for them. --Two retired teachers
