The author tells of her experience as an abused woman. Julia Chadwell was a battered woman for eighteen years. The fact that she is a college graduate with a Masters' Degree did not keep her safe from domestic violence. She became a free woman through her own efforts and the help of many kind people along the way. She went on to be an Elementary School teacher for twenty years. Her eight children all survived and are thriving as productive, accomplished adults. She and her second husband have fifteen grandchildren.
