The author, host of a talk radio show, varies the standard formula: simple explanations of emotions, case studies, and self-help exercises. His exercises, more complicated than the standard multiple choice forms, involve both partners (most only expect the reader to do the work) and often call for maintaining diaries over time to get an in-depth understanding of behaviors. The reader then learns how to use the positive behaviors to enhance the marriage.
