Thousands of hemophiliac children have contracted hepatitis and aids from transfusion with infected blood. Ninety-five percent of all Americans will need transfusions at some point in their lives; yet it has taken the terrifying emergence of AIDS to alert an unsuspecting public to the actual risks involved. Dr. Feldschuh documents the inadequacies and shocking oversights of the blood-bank system, elucidating the risks of present practices and suggesting specific alternatives, including the now feasible storing of one's own blood, pedigreed donors, and mono-donor transfusion.

From Library Journal:
This is essentially a promotional piece for the author's blood bank, a company largely driven by AIDS hysteria. Feldschuh proposes that individuals store their own blood at his bank, with the blood shipped to the individual when a crisis arises. It is less risky to use one's own blood for transfusions, but you won't find a comprehensive, evenhanded look at this issue here. A better bet is Blood Policy and Technology , a 1985 publication from the Federal Office of Technology Assessment. The book is very technical, but less outdated than the publication date would suggest. It has also been reprinted by Lippincott in 1987 as Blood Technologies, Services, and Issues and is available through government depositories (but out of print at the Government Printing Office). Unfortunately, no update is currently planned. Feldschuh's book suggests one thing: that a new, serious study on this topic is vital.
