"Inside-out" is the term Hertig employs to exemplify both family and church as healing communities for Korean Americans. "Inside-out" also characterizes both the substance and style of this pastorally written book on the Korean immigrant family and church. Written in English and Korean, the book is designed to serve both English and Korean speaking Christians in North America. Simply yet insightfully written, the book engages readers at the level where pain and promise of Korean American Christian communities are identified and articulated.

The persuasive power of this book lies in the author's own personal experiences of ministry in Korean American churches and her faith convictions that arise out of her struggles with the issues she identifies in the book. This is a must reading for those who are engaged in ministry in Korean American churches. The book will also speak deeply to those who are grappling with inter-generational issues of Korean American families and with other immigrant communities.

Fumitaka Matsuoka is professor of theology and director of the Institute for Leadership Development and the Study of Pacific and Asian North American Religion at Pacific School of Religion, Berkeley, California.
