Offers an offbeat look at sibling rivalry and relationships
"synopsis" may belong to another edition of this title.
Heavily illustrated with over 130 pictures in 104 pages, Gwathmey and Stern's work is a compilation of quips, anecdotes, and recycled information about female siblings, real and imagined. There are famous sisters like Jackie and Lee, Olivia and Joan; fabled sisters like the Fates and the Furies; literary ladies like the Brontes and those little women, the March girls; songsters like the Lennon Sisters; twin sisters like the Doublemints or Abby and Ann; and that phenomenal sister fivesome, the Dionne quintuplets. This haphazardly organized holiday gift item is silly and full of one-liners and questionable facts. Gwathmey and Stern, who regularly publish lightweight collections of miscellany (Once Upon a Telephone: An Illustrated Social History, LJ 9/1/94), say they had "a good time" doing their research. Sorry, but this breezy salute to everywoman's sister is not recommended for most libraries.?Carol A. McAllister, Coll. of William & Mary Lib., Williamsburg, Va.
