From School Library Journal:
Grade 2-3-This satisfying continuation of Roommates (1990) and Roommates and Rachel (1991, both McElderry) successfully meets the enormous need for high-quality beginning chapter books. Mimi and Kelly, best friends, have big plans for their four days at Camp Sleep-Away. They talk about campfires, songs, and sleeping in a cabin so much that Beth, Mimi's younger sister, becomes jealous. Then, when Kelly gets chicken pox and Beth is offered the chance to go in her place, she is unsure. Eat strange food for four days? Food that might be "slippery and slidey?" But everything works out fine in the end, with the help of a friendly counselor and peanut-butter sandwiches. And when Mimi finds that she is not as thrilled with camp as she thought she would be-there are spiders in the restroom-she turns to her younger sister for comfort. These siblings, although quarrelsome, really care about each other. Graham's realistic pencil sketches capture the characters' various moods and complement the story perfectly. A welcome addition.

From Booklist:
Gr. 2-4. This sequel to Roommates (1990) and Roommates and Rachel (1991) finds sisters Beth and Mimi confronting several minor anxieties. Mimi feels left out when Beth makes plans to go to Camp Sleep-Away with her best friend. Then, at the last minute, the friend comes down with chicken pox, making room for Mimi to go in her place. Beth fears sleeping away from home and eating strange food, but she tries camp anyway and is relieved to discover that her misgivings are unfounded and that Mimi has a few phobias of her own. Short chapters, large print, and a manageable vocabulary, combined with believable characters and situations, make this an easily accessible first chapter book. Mark Graham's soft pencil sketches help to break up the text and add a cozy feeling as well. A good choice for young readers contemplating overnight camp; pair with Elizabeth Levy's Dracula Is a Pain in the Neck (1983) for a different perspective. Kay Weisman
