A Brock and Poole mystery - When MP Hugh Blakemore is shot dead near a bus stop in the Fulham Road, DCI Harry Brock and DS Dave Poole are assigned to the case. But there is a complication that, at first, misleads the detectives: months previously, Blakemore killed an inmate when visiting a prison. Although Blakemore was exonerated, Brock is convinced that underworld characters have exacted revenge . . .

About the Author:
During Graham Ison's thirty year career in Scotland Yard's Special Branch he was involved in several espionage cases and the investigation into the escape of the spy George Blake. He spent four years at 10 Downing Street as Protection Officer to two Prime Ministers and also served as second-in-command of the Diplomatic Protection Group.
Review:
Brit cop duo Harry Brock and Dave Poole catch the case after politician Hugh Blakemore is gunned down by a helmeted motorcyclist at a bus stop in London. Although the cyclist escapes, an alert witness catches the license number of the bike, which naturally turns out to be stolen. Soon Brock and Poole are negotiating their way through a twisted maze of suspects and clues. They interview a whole panoply of potential suspects--from English and American gangsters through an urbane import-export dealer to an ambitious documentary filmmaker, Blakemore's nymphomaniac wife, and his wannabe-actress daughter. As the bodies pile up and pressure to solve the case increases, Brock and Poole find even the most promising leads ending in frustrating dead ends. Ison's refreshingly casual writing style, clever plotting, wry humor, and keen insights into the way the police do their work result in another satisfying entry in this popular British series. --Booklist, 1st November 2009
