About the Author:

Allan Wood has been a New England lighthouse enthusiast, published photographer, and educator for over 25 years. As a college Professor, he has been teaching courses in photography, digital media, and business for the past 16 years in New Hampshire. Currently Allan is enjoying working on independent projects, still as a local college professor, and in researching and learning about New England's history. He has also completed a self-imposed project in photographing all of the 175 lighthouses in New England, created a New England lighthouse tourism website, and continues to photograph lighthouses and surrounding vistas along New England's rugged coastline. Allan's heritage in New England dates back to the times of the Pilgrims in Massachusetts. As a lighthouse enthusiast, creating this book of historic lighthouse stories was an extension of his enjoyment in researching about New England's rich history, and his occupation as an educator and photographer to provide insight to the reader on some of the historic accounts that occurred along New England's coastal communities. Allan lives near the New Hampshire seacoast with his wife Christine, two boys Bryan and Steven, and their dog Spot.

The book provides an excellent accounting of some amazing slices of interesting lighthouse history, such as the famous lighthouse rescue dogs, maritime disasters, and, for the ghost lovers, a selection on haunted lighthouses. My personal favorite chapter is about former lighthouse keepers Paul and Helen Baptiste, who are two of the nicest true life lighthouse people that you can ever meet. --Tim Harrison - Lighthouse Digest
