From the Author:
"Captain America is both an idealist and a patriot ... a living symbol of the American Dream. He grew up in a era of economic upheaval and government corruption, in a time when political and religious demagogues used the airwaves to increase their personal power and wealth. When Cap came out of suspended animation and rejoined the world, things hadn't really changed that much. There were more people, and the demagogues were using television in addition to radio, but Cap had seen it all before. And despite the frustration of seeing how little people had changed, he didn't give in to cynicism. That toughness of character was -- is -- his greatest strength." -- Roger Stern
Review:
"A throwback from my teen years, this starts [Mark] Gruenwald's long tenure on the book. He's still clearing the decks of old subplots and dealing with the occasional crossover, but he's also laying groundwork for Cap's Hotline, the Serpent Society and Scourge, all great stories from '80s Cap. The art by Neary is solid if unspectacular, and while some might find the plotting and dialogue a little dated or even cheesy, I still love these stories and look forward to the next Epic collection of Gruenwald's run." -- Randy Lander
"Roger Stern is recognized as one of the best Captain America writers of all time ... and to see him team up with Frank Miller is fantastic." -- Ethan Kallett
"Captain America gets his second Epic Collection installment with this chunky book (volume 12 in the eventual complete run). It's another good collection that sees the Star-Spangled Avenger face old foes and new. The volume begins with a story by Roger Stern and Frank Miller, featuring Cap up against a ring of desperate arsonists, but the rest of the stories are written by Michael Carlin (the first third) and Mark Gruenwald (the rest), and drawn by Paul Neary. The stories themselves, mostly short affairs of 1-3 issues, are somewhat varied but never less than exciting." -- Temple Phoenix
