After receiving a B.A. in Sociology from Louisiana State University, Funderburke worked for the Louisiana Welfare Department across river from his home of Baton Rouge. Navigating a land of old antebellum homes, slave cabins, sugar cane plantations, swamps, and bayous he became intimately familiar with the landscape that would later fill his works of fiction. He spent another year working across the river from New Orleans as well.
Most of his work with the state was in probation and parole midnight arrest runs, scuffling with men intent on not heading to jail, participating in investigations. This work proved the foundation for his Dylan St. John character and has been fodder for the authentic mysteries enjoyed by many.
A protégé of Gilbert Morris, Funderburke continues his ministry of Christian Fiction in Louisiana where he lives with his wife, Helen, and their daughter.
