This disappointing effort presents a hodgepodge of fingerplays, rhymes, songs, games, and activities. Historical background about several poets and musicians, suggestions for teaching sign language, and ideas for celebrating National Children's Book Week are thrown in as well. Chapters include: "Mother Goose Rhymes"; "Rhythm of the ABC's, Signs and Signals"; and "Rhythms, Poems, and Poets." They are poorly organized, and the layout is so cluttered that it's difficult to access information. The activities range from the mundane to the original. The sections on play and on color and art seem out of place, forcing the connection to rhythm and rhyme. Jean Warren's Nursery Rhyme Theme-a-saurus: The Great Big Book of Nursery Rhyme Teaching Themes (Warren, 1993) is a better choice.
