Karen Wagner is a dedicated preschool teacher and mother, in addition to being a gifted children's book writer. The author of A Friend Like Ed, and Silly Fred, she lives in Norwalk, Connecticut, with her daughter, Emmy.

Janet Pedersen, a native Californian, is a free-lance illustrator and designer. In addition to illustrating children's books, her artwork has appeared in magazines and on book jackets for adults. She lives with her husband, Tom, and son, Graham, in Brooklyn, New York.

On Saturday evening, Ed will be exhibiting his fabulous button collection in his very first art show, and Mildred will have her violin recital. Both mice are feeling jittery about going solo, so they decide to practice doing things alone. When the big day arrives, both youngsters have gained confidence and the recital and the art show are smashing successes. The next day they meet in the park and agree they can do anything separately, but the best things are the ones they do together. Pedersen's watercolors are done in warm, soft colors and convey believable and playful expressions.
