YA Books about Central America abound currently, but most offer the insights of American authors into a situation that affects them only indirectly. This title is different: it offers the insights of Nicaraguan women of all ages who live in the various cultures of the country and who explain from their own perspective why Nicaragua is in revolution and what changes they see in their own lives. Yes, the women interviewed support the Sandinistas and discuss why; no, there may not be a comparable book which discusses the Contras. However, the essays provide a thorough discussion of the Sandinista movement and its efforts to resist what it sees as North American agression. Even, or especially, Americans who support the Contras need to read this book for a clearer understanding of the ``big picture.''
