Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. First Edition (NAP, Harry N. Abrams= NAP). 250 Illustrations, including 120 plates in full color. You can see the covers in the photos. My phone camera was misrepresenting the color (which is a nice dark green) which was irritating the hell out of me, so I used the scanner, the surface of which is narrower than the book. Alas. However, no issues are concealed. The covers are very clean. The bright red lettering on the front and spine looks terrific. On the rear cover there is a small thin line or area that is a little darker green than the rest of the cover. The cover edges are in very nice shape. The two top ones are a slightly lightened green. The middle page edge does have two light tan stains, one fairly large, but they don't seem to have impacted the actual pages. The book is square and the spine is straight. The binding of this quite heavy book is very solid. The pages are nicely tight throughout and the covers are nicely tight as well. The interior of the book is in very nice condition. Scrolling through the pages, I'm not finding any instances of soiling. There is a light toning just off the edges which you often see with semi-glossy paper. I'm not seeing any creasing. There are no markings. No attachments of any kind. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. I've always had it in a fitted protective cover. Hence the glare with the phone camera was terrible, so opted again for the scanner which can't capture the whole jacket, but, here too, no issues are concealed. Note that the whitish color at the top edge is just glare off the protective cover. You can make out the slightly whitish shading one-third of the way down from the top of the front and rear cover and one-third of the way up from the bottom of the front and rear cover. That's because the large jacket was produced to be folded in at the top and bottom so its tracing the greater thickness there. It also looks like the sun may have preferred blue to green, changing the spine's green to blue. I don't see any tears on the jacket and it looks quite clean. The flaps are in very solid shape, very clean. There is a small, light crease below the front flap's top corner. The jacket is not priced or clipped. From the dust jacket: 'The first full-length study of one of America's greatest artists. Bearden grew up in New York during the Harlem Renaissance, in a household regularly visited by Duke Ellington, Fats Waller, and Langston Hughes; he went on to make his name in the art world, showing with Robert Motherwell, William Baziotes, and Carl Holty. Myron Schwartzman met with and interviewed Bearden regularly throughout the six-year period before the artist's death in 1988, during which time the two discussed in detail the many and varied influences on Bearden's life and art. The rich visual material is uniformly striking yet extremely varied in content and includes not only the great collages for which he was most famed, but also paintings, drawings, cartoons, documentary photographs, and sketches made by Bearden expressly for this book. Bearden's work comes together with the insightful text and conversations to paint a vivid portrait of one of the nation's preeminent African-American artists.'. Seller Inventory # 005576
