From Library Journal:
Written for the casually curious as well as the dedicated fan, the Companion should have a lot of appeal to both. A potpourri, it includes original and reprinted pieces relating to King, many from uncommon sources, including a lengthy 1983 Playboy magazine interview which holds up well. Part 1 deals with the public King--life, publications, family (including his author/wife, Tabitha). Part 2 is for fans--a look at a King newsletter, the Stephen King convention, specialty book and cassette publishers, and more. Part 3 discusses every book by King, with synopses, critical remarks, TV tie-ins, etc., often with comment from King himself. Appendixes list books in print by or about King, films, TV, and audio cassettes based on King tales, and detailed notes on collecting King. Some information will date rapidly. Libraries should certainly have Douglas E. Winter's Stephen King: The Act of Darkness (LJ 11/15/84; 1986. rev. ed.), a critical analysis that also provides synopses, film adaptations, and a comprehensive bibliography, but Beahm's book is a useful current supplement, with a different approach, for public libraries.

From School Library Journal:
YA-- Reading interviews with Stephen King as he talks about himself and his writing helps to dispel the notion that he is a depraved madman writing novels. Beahm does a remarkable job of presenting all aspects of King's life, including his family and their values. He describes the Victorian mansion which King and his wife, Tabitha, have lovingly restored. Interviews with King on such topics as censorship and banned books, as well as his comments about his own books, and interviews with critics present a definitive picture of this popular author. Several appendices list books by King; about King, his films and cassettes; and a buying guide for collectible books. A sure winner with King fans or those curious about the man behind the legend.
