Ratcliff has captured the essence of Longo in this catalog of sorts which reflects the diversity of this crossover artist from 1975 to 1984. Beginning with a four-part commentary on various components of Longo's art, Carter sets a mood that will enable his readers to analyze for themselves the monumentality, iconographicism, and stop-motion effect that permeate Longo's works. The major portion of the book is the catalog itself, through which one can see and feel the energy, the emotion, and the impact of Longo's social commentary on urban life and daily struggle. However, unfortunately for those not familiar with Longo or his works, the book lacks biographical and bibliographical data, information not easily found in other sources.
