Some 3 to 4 percent of the 7,000 or so species of Western Australian vascular plants bear some form or other of fleshy underground storage organs, a strategy which may be viewed as assisting survival of species in environments with seasonal drought and soils markedly deficient in mineral elements. The book represents the results of a six-year study of this interesting group of plants in both the field and the laboratory. Includes line drawings, figures and full color plates.
