Two new books have been added to Crabtree's Eye on the Universe series, an introduction for children to the exciting discoveries we have made in space and the mysteries that still remain. Up-to-date photographs taken through powerful space telescopes such as the Hubble give children a close-up view of:
-- the planets in our solar system
-- natural phenomena such as light shows in the sky
-- the technology we have launched into space
-- how people live and work without gravity

Find out what type of star the Sun is, what fuels its enormous energy, and what the Sun's position is in our galaxy. Kids will be intrigued to learn about eclipses, solar activity, and space weather and will gain an insight into the crucial relationship between the Sun and Earth. Topics include:
-- What is the Sun?
-- stars and the solar system
-- making energy
-- Why we need the Sun

Time and seasons Earth is in constant motion. It orbits the Sun, and while it travels, rotates on its axis. As Earth rotates, we experience day or night, depending on which side of the planet faces the Sun. As it orbits the Sun, we experience different seasons. It takes Earth a year to make one full trip around the Sun and begin the cycle of seasons again. Long ago, people realized that the Sun follows recognizable patterns throughout the day and through the seasons. They used these patterns to keep track of time.
