About the Author:

Patrick Ellam was born in England in 1920, joined the army at the start of World War II and was an artillery officer when a notice said 'Officers are urgently needed to volunteer to drop alone behind the enemy lines'. So he went to a Spy School and spent the rest of the war, until 1946 as a member of the top secret Special Operations Executive, first in France and then, after the war in Europe ended, in the far east. At SOE his boss' boss reported directly to Winston Churchill. Then in 1951 he sailed across the Atlantic Ocean in the ultralight 19 foot boat Sopranino, as described in the book Sopranino. Then in New York, he met June, who was born in Michigan and was working for the producer of a Broadway show.
