Volume II
The purpose of these two volumes on FACTS AND FAITH is to help furnish a basis or ground for Christian faith to persons, especially young people, who are confronted with challenges to their faith, from the fields of science, philosophy and liberal theology.
Basic attitudes of today tend to emphasize extremes, either toward a radical empiricism or a complete subjectivism and rejection of all authority. One can have a dependable, reasonable faith, however, without being extreme, but most people need help to find this firm ground.
Most attacks against faith in the name of science are really grounded in a philosophy of "Scientism," which presupposes that there is no truth not provable by science. It is overweening to presume that science knows all the answers, even in the realm of the spirit and values. Christian faith has no quarrel with true science operating within its own realm.
Many philosophies and now several theologies have come to reject the idea of a revelation from God, given in clear, understandable words such as we have in the Bible. This poses the problems which these two volumes seek to bring help on.
The Bible deserves more consideration than it has been receiving. A great part of the problem is that we have a generation that is unaware of its contents. We should hope that this situation will be reversed.
