Includes preface and 3 extensive chapters: Before the White Man; Westward Expansion; and The Old West is Dead. Illustrated with 136 gorgeous color plates, 175 notes, bibliography, and alphabetical list of artists and their work. Included are artists such as Albert Bierstadt, Frederic Remington, C.M. Russell, Charles Schreyvogel, Thomas Moran, and many others. This limited edition (stated 1000 signed and numbered copies, of which this is #42) contains a lengthy handwritten inscription from the author / collector to a gallery owner who helped him aquire many of the pictures in the book.
