The Mind Keepers by Kenneth MacLean has won two national honorable Mention awards. The first (July 31,2007) was From the Hollywood Book Festival, a competition designed to give attention to books applicable to media: TV or motion Pictures. He added the second award from the DIY Convention (October ,2007), a group of Independent publishers, and artists and producers of films, music and books. The mind Keeprs leding figure, Mike Neilly, a former army intelligence officer and FBI agent, comes to Morton City longing to be free from the demons of his past. Instead, he finds himself more deeply entangled. His failed marriage and his embittered FBI Service have led him to seek peace near a former army friend, Jack Sutton. Neilly, trained in skills which he had never practiced, hopes to establish a simple professional life as an architect and designer. When Sutton is found shot to death, the apparent victim of a robbery gone wrong, Neilly can't accept the appearances. Too many factors point to a more sinister crime. When former FBI partner Cal Greves calls on Neilly, the sinister begins to take form. It involves Greves's suspicions about a consortium of computer and government technology people building a semi-secret pulse-wave powercast station on a mountaintop outside of town. Greves draws Neilly into his investigation of the station, which both realize is a legitimate defense facility, but one they fear has been infected with false motives, conspiracy to use the station and others like it for personal power. Neilly fears commitment to Greves's investigation. His army experience with the technology involved has shown its ability to invade the network of the human brain, producing visions that appear real, but are not; bodiless voices that suggest, but aren't, delusion. These experiences drive him toward refusal. But his friend's death, his duty to uncover the killer and the plot against American principles, forces his acceptance, letting the feared consequences be what they may.

From the Publisher:

As early as 1972, Michael Chrichton wrote about mind control in his bestseller "The Terminal Man." More than a galvanizing novel, Kenneth MacLean's cautionary tale, "The Mind Keepers," draws attention to microwave technology and the very real possibility for abuse and use against humanity. He reminds us that power corrupts.

Today the world has microchips, and no longer a far=fetched possibility,te technology exists to create a totalitarian "New World Order." Raune Kilde,MD., Finland's former Chief Medical Officer, wondered if we were ready for the "robotization" of mankind and the total elimination of privacy, including freedom of thought. How many of us want to be controlled, to cede our lives, including our most secret thoughts, to Big Brother?

Addictably readable,"The Mind Keepers" is a well-crafted thriller that will jolt your senses.

From the Author:
I wrote this book to make human experience of a fictional kind parallel my personal experience, causing people to reflect on a truth: Technology, for all its healing gifts and personal value has inevitably a dark side that requires constant human thought and ethical attention. All of the incidents in the book involving electronic harassment are drawn from my own experience, from research in existing technology or from the carefully considered experience of others. I have tried to exert extreme caution against over drmatizing the events I have lived through, and to keep in my mind, as I hope in the readers's, the rewarding side: the healing of the deaf the blind and the halt by the marvelous devices that our technology can produce. Still, Americans must always be wary of what powers they allow to grow unattended in their democracy. Our wariness is due. right now, to the interface of computers, electronics, and neuroscience.
