Marla Ranelletti began working with algae as an undergraduate at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She has worked at the Bermuda Biological Station for research. She received her M.S. degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara for her work on algal competition.
Dr. Richard M. McCourt received his Ph.D. from the University of Arizona for research on the ecology of Sargassum in the northern Gulf of California. He has taught at DePaul University in Chicago and is Associate Curator of Botany at the Academy of Natual Sciences in Philadelphia.
