About the Author:

SAMUEL MAIO is the author of The Burning of Los Angeles (poems) and Creating Another Self: Voice in Modern American Personal Poetry, a finalist for the Christian Gauss Award. He has received awards from the Academy of American Poets for his poetry and from Phi Kappa Phi for his literary criticism; and, for many years, he was an associate editor of The Formalist. He is currently a professor of English and comparative literature at California State University, San Jose, where he has served as both the director of creative writing and the director of the Center for Literary Arts.
