A selection of 100 of the museum's best paintings and furniture pieces in its 2700-item American art collection. Each item has a full-page color plate, plus detailed notes about the work and its artist or artisan. Most of the paintings are from the 18th and 19th centuries. Includes two short essays by Wendell Garrett and Nicolai Cikovsky. Catalog notes by Cynthia Duval, Joel Fletcher, Leigh Keno, Holly K. Keris, Gary R. Libby, Laura Stewart, David C. Swoyer and Peter Thurber. Among the artists represented are Jacob Eicholtz, Robert Salmon, Edmund Darch Lewis, William H. Willcox, John Bunyan Bristol, Samuel Lovett Waldo, C.Grafton Dana, and Jasper Francis Cropsey.
