From the Author:
In continuing the series of works on German industrialized clockmaking in the Black Forest with a dual publication. Part I covers the "Lenzkirch Clock Factory" in Lenzkirch Badenia Black Forest, While Part II describes the the enterprise "Winterhalder- Hofmeier ClockFacoty" in Neustadt, Black Forest. Lenzkirch clocks were of such fine craftmanship, wonderful ornamentation, and superb "in house" design, that they rank at the top of all German made regulators. In fact, their varied movements and richly decorated clock cases-- often made to customers' specifactions-- practically priced many models out of the market. My attempts to invite the last living general manager as well as the city archives of Lenzkirch to participate in this publication failed, but collectors in the United Stated and abroad generously contributed information and photographs.

The "Winterhalder-Hofmeier" clock enterprise, located in Neustadt, Black Forest, evolved out of a cottage shop begun in 1710. For almost 200 years, this traditional family company produced fine clocks of most solid quality. It exported clocks to England, Russia, the Near East, Japan, China, and the United Stated. The Great Depression and the immense loss on the 'Black Tuesday' doomed this enterprise. PartII is especially noteworthy due to the contributions archival mateial on his family company, but he wrote a notable address for this publication.

About the Author:
Karl Kochmann, a native of Austria, is a world famous researcher, author, and lecturer with eight books in European Clockmaking to his credit. He writes with an unmistakable style.
