"From the union between the daughter of a bullet mould maker and the son of a button turner emerged a Birmingham family of arms manufacturers whose products became famous in all parts of the world............ Although the origin of the firm dates from 1790, the object of this work is to describe the evolution of the Webley revolver, which began in 1853, when the brothers James and Philip Webley produced a single action, percussion cap and ball revolver, the first of a long line of weapons culminating in the well known Webley Revolver Pistol Mark VI."
