Lieutenant-Colonel Banastre Tarleton served under the British military commander Cornwallis during the Southern campaigns of the American Revolutionary War. This volume is a facsimile reproduction of his 1787 book describing those campaigns. The work is undoubted of value due to its inclusion of numerous relevant documents, but was criticized by such contemporaries as Colonel Roderick Mackenzie as containing many self-aggrandizing misrepresentations.
