These three titles, aimed more at the entrepreneur seeking financing for a new business venture than at potential investors, yield mixed results. The editors of Inc. magazine have compiled more than 50 articles appearing in the periodical over the years. The essays are grouped into five broad areas, the most useful of which treat financing and valuing the business. Notwithstanding the shortcomings of this format, namely lack of freshness and continuity, the book is an authoritative and convenient source of information. Burrill and Norback offer the entrepreneur a guide to the steps needed to attract financing for a high-risk business venture. Their advicepertinent and usefulfocuses on preparing the business plan, coping with due diligence investigations, and deciding on the most effective capital structure for the venture. Half the book is devoted to sample agreements and a list of venture capital firms. Recommended. Though he professes to aim his terse advice at the entrepreneur, Helsing, a venture capitalist, alternately addresses the venture capitalist and the businessperson seeking financing.
