Wine into Words grew out of my obsession for collecting wine books. As my collection grew I discovered that there was no adequate bibliography of wine books. I decided to compile and write the first bibliography. At the time I was a practicing civil trial attorney and the research and writing took place on weekends, evenings, and vacations. After several years of work the manuscript was finished but I found to my chagrin that no one was interested in publishing my "magnum opus." My letters to publishers went unanswered so I decided to publish it myself, and in 1984 Wine into Words: A History and Bibliography of Wine Books in the English Language was born. As one might expect it received a quiet reception, but I was elated. I had handled every aspect of compiling, writing, publishing and distributing a first-class book. It was my first book. and I was bitten with "printers ink." It would not be my last book.Twenty years later and retired from the law, I started researching a second edition of Wine into Words, and in 2004, after years of work, I published the second edition. It received critical acclaim from such bigger-than-life personalities as Robert Mondavi, Robert M. Parker, Jr., Hugh Johnson, Robin Garr, Dr. Bryce C. Rankine, and Dr. Kevin Starr.I'm very proud of it. It is the definitive work on wine books in the English language. As Robert Mondavi said, "It's a must for all wine lovers."
