About the Author:

Travel writer Tony Huegel began introducing America to the concept of backcountry touring in 1993, when he launched his innovative "Byways" series of adventure driving guidebooks. He and his family had discovered that, thanks to their 4wd sport-utility vehicle, they could explore western wildlands and remote historic sites comfortably, conveniently and safely anytime. After growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area and earning a bachelor's degree in journalism at U.C. Berkeley, Tony worked as a reporter and photographer for newspapers in Wyoming, California and Idaho.
