Jewish Women Speak Out: Expanding the Boundaries of Psychology is one of the first books to address, from a feminist perspective, a variety of psychological issues specific to Jewish women living in the US. The first chapters make the link between the disciplines of Judaism, Feminism and Psychology. This is followed by discussions of identity development issues, therapeutic issues and concludes with contemporary issues. The book is an outgrowth of the First International Conference on Judaism, Feminism and Psychology: Creating a Shelter in the Wilderness, held in Seattle in 1992.

About the Author:
Kayla Weiner, Ph.D. and Arinna Moon were the coordinator and registration chair, respectively, for the Judaism, Feminism and Psychology Conference: Creating a Shelter in the Wilderness. Dr. Weiner is a psychotherapist in independent practice in Seattle WA. She teaches and publishes in a variety of areas relating to the mental health of women. Ms. Moon works in the social service field.
Review:
Jewish Women Speak Out: Expanding The Boundaries Of Psychology is divided into four broad categories: Setting the Frame; Identity Development; Therapeutic Encounters; and Contemporary Topics. Some authors struggle with issues of identity; defining themselves as people, both in the Jewish world and in the larger society. Others grapple with issues of fear; dealing with the realties of external and internalized anti-Semitism. The issues of visibility, invisibility and over visibility weave through all the sections. The explorations of these themes helps to make Jewish women understood from their own perspectives rather than through the perspectives of other people who have attempted to define them. -- Midwest Book Review

The editors have certainly met their goal of expanding the boundaries of psychology. -- Joan C.Chrisler,Ph.D., Associate Professor of Psychology, Connecticut College

This is a wonderful anthology, full of wisdom, information and steady, quite courage.... -- Phyllis Chesler, Ph.D., Author and Social Activist
