Saving the Schooner is a historical fiction set along the Kennebec River in Maine in the year 1906. It is written for ages 7 and older and is a 16-chapter book. The story depicts a young girl's attempt to get her father to reopen the family-owned shipyard after a tragedy that killed the girl's brother. The young heroine, Isabel, wants her papa to finish building a four-masted schooner, and by doing so, hopes the family will overcome their grief.

About the Author:
Susie Yakowicz has written three books on Maine history and one on North Dakota history. She is a great-great-granddaughter of well-known shipbuilder and politician Arthur Sewall (1835-1900) from Bath, Maine. Her other books are Steel Glory: The Life of Arthur Sewall, From Down East to Midwest: The Memoirs of Margaret Sewall Hector, and Fire Runner. Susie lives in Eagan, Minnesota, with her family.
