Why I Wrote Good Medicine, Great Sex!

In a sense, my story begins with someone else's.

Ralph Seely, an attorney in Olympia, Washington, was dying from bone cancer. He was allowed to take synthetic pot, Marinol, to control his vomiting, but often was too nauseated to swallow it. Even when he could, it took an hour to kick in, and then he was so high he couldn't work. By contrast, two puffs of marijuana stopped his nausea and vomiting within two minutes, and left him clear-headed.

When he asked to use marijuana legally, the judge answered, "A cancer patient's agony doesn't outweigh the government's responsibility to protect citizens against the perils of drug use." Ralph died in misery six months later.

In my 75 years I've never seen anyone hurt by using pot - but I've witnessed innumerable tragedies caused by the government's senseless war on cannabis. In Marijuana: Not Guilty As Charged I laid out the evidence for this virtually harmless herb - and then looked for another way to dramatize both the benefits of pot and the evils of prohibition. I looked at the stories I knew, and thought of my own.

I have enjoyed a long and satisfying life, and I owe much of the success and joy I've found to my use of cannabis. I've also known pain and loss, and marijuana has helped me through some very bad times. I thought, "Maybe if one cannabis user tells the simple and honest truth about his life..."
