Volume I of a new series covering aviation in southeast Alaska. This volume covers the first flight in southeast Alaska, the army 'Wolf Squadron' New York to Nome flight up to 1935.

The book is thorough on the history and has 180 photos an all time high. Many of these photos have never been seen before and were published in this book for the first time.

This set will be a three volume set. Volume II will cover 1935 to 1946 the war years, titled Alaska's Winged Warriors. The third volume yet unnamed will cover 1946-1968 end of an era. In 1968 the Seadrome ceased to exist in southeast Alaska with the purchase by Alaska Airlines of the sea operations and with airports being built in southeast Alaska.

About the Author:

Jim Ruotsala was born in Juneau, Alaska on February 17, 1934 and was raised in the Juneau-Douglas area. At the age of nine, Jim began to frequent the Alaska Coastal Airlines Seadrome where he develooped his life long interest in Alaska aviation.

Jim dedicated his life to studying and learning about Alaska's aviation history. Through the years, he established closer friendship with many Alaskan bush pilots. His collection of over 3,000 images and negatives was copied from serveral of the "Old Greats" personal collections.

Jim is considered by many to be Alaska's foremoste aviation historian and had many published works to his credit.
