We live in the era of disposable relationships. Everywhere we look, people are shedding themselves of their mates. Over the past decade, about one half of all marriages have ended. Someone once said that we treat our spouses like we do our socks, discarding them after light use. Only we're really much nicer to the socks, since we don't actually throw them out.

From the Publisher:
You'll never find an author more enthusiastic about his work than John Wood, an aggressively positive young man who has carved out a niche as one of Alabama's outstanding family lawyers. John is a tireless crusader for a more elevated and sensible way of handling divorce. If it was up to him, no one would be getting divorced and he would practice another kind of law. But people will continue to uncouple in frighteningly large numbers, and John Wood will be there urging them away from the vengeful, get-even-at-all-costs mentality. With The Successful Divorce (Alabama Edition), John has presented a pathway for breaking up and reforming relationships without the total destructiveness that has devastated the lives of so many parents and children in past decades.
About the Author:
As a child of divorce himself, attorney and author John Wood is keenly aware that domestic problems often present clients with the most important legal issues they will ever face. His goal in writing The Successful Divorce, is to educate clients that decisions related to divorce must be thoroughly thought out, because they will have long-lasting consequences. The effect of divorce lasts throughout the lifetimes of the parties, including not only the husband and wife, but the children and other family members as well. John has established himself as one of Alabama's leading advocates for educating the public about children's rights and divorce and custody issues. A graduate of the prestigious Georgetown University Law School, he practiced at one of the state's largest firms before leaving to concentrate in matrimonial and custody law. He serves as Chairman of the Family Law Section of the Alabama State Bar and was selected to the Birmingham Business Journal's Top 40 Under 40, a listing of the most outstanding young civic and business leaders.
