Naked Hemingway is a fictional biography about Ernest Hemingway's life and times. Thomas C. Prosser uses Hemingway as the book's narrator to take the reader on exciting adventures that include stops in Spain, 1920s Paris, Key West, Cuba, and Africa. The reader meets Hemingway's famous friends Scott Fitzgerald, Gertrude Stein, Sylvia Beach and many other friends and foes of this colorful American writer.

Hemingway's penchant for using his friends and acquaintances in his novels and short stories is well documented. His first novel The Sun Also Rises, is nearly all based on his friends in Paris and Pamplona. This is also true for The Green Hills of Africa, and A Fare Well to Arms. Many of the real people he used as characters in his books are at last revealed in Naked Hemingway. In the case of Harold Loeb, who was Sun's whining Robert Cohn it almost got Hemingway shot!

Readers learn about the rituals of the bullfight and how matadors think and act in and out of the bullring. What separates the hack bullfighter from the great matadors? Hemingway's passion for hunting lions in Africa and fishing for majestic blue marlin is shown and includes humorous incidents about the trails, tribulations, and dangers sometimes encountered in these life and death sports.

Hemingway talks about growing up in Oak Park Illinois and some of the people who were early influences on him. He tells of his love for his father, Dr.Clarence Hemingway, who taught Hemingway to hunt and fish by the time he was five years old. Hemingway confides his shock and grave sense of loss he suffered when his father killed himself. Hemingway also reveals his deep-seated anger at his mother, Grace Hemingway whom he blamed for emasculating his father and finally driving him over the edge to suicide. Hemingway feared even as an adult, his mother would try to do the same to him. He had definite cause for concern, since Mrs. Hemingway dressed Hemingway up as a little girl till he was about three years old. Naked Hemingway actually contains a picture of Hemingway dressed in a little girls dress!

Naked Hemingway contains 43 black and white photographs from Hemingway's personal photo collection. Many of these rare photos date back almost one hundred years! These pictures chronicle Hemingway's adventures in Spain, Paris, Key West, Cuba, and Africa. They provide the reader with a rich visual history of one of the world's great legends.

From the Author:
Erenst Hemingway is a writer of consquence who has influenced many writers. His sense of reality and taut prose keep his work as vital now as when he wrote it. Although I greatly admired his singular writing style, I actively tried not to write like him in Naked Hemingway. Rather I sought to capture the flavor of how he might have talked to friends in everyday life. His pet phrases and slang in letters to friends were a great help to me in finding his voice.
