About the Author:
Larry Stephenson is an elected member of the prestigious American Watercolor Society. His work has been included in major AWS shows in New York and has toured with the AWS traveling exhibition throughout the country. He has also exhibited with Allied Artists and the Salamagundi Club in New York City. His dazzling representations of sunflowers started a craze that saw them reproduced on everything from tee shirts to posters. Today, Larry's work, including his new book, reflects his roots in the plains of Oklahoma and Kansas. The Butterfly Kingresulted from his desire to pass along to children, "The idea that something of greater value still exists in a world that emphasizes convenience and short-lived luxuries." Larry lives with his wife Sheryl and three sons in Andover, Kansas.
Review:
Somewhere beyond the limits of our imagination, Thomas Maximus, King of Hearts, and his tiny kingdom of Mill live on the brink of a great turning of time. It's an era when well-born Millennians occupy their leisure with games and chasing butterflies. When the King and his companions discover a new planet on the horizon, it is seen as a sign that the grandest of galas must be held to make the coming of the next two thousand years. This "Millennium Party" will have at its heart a special butterfly-chasing contest, which challenges one and all to find the elusive Checkered Beauties -- creatures so rare that none have been seen for a thousand years. The Butterfly Kingis wonderfully illustrated by Larry Stephenson who coauthored this lovely, charming fable for a new millennium with Patti Weinbrenner. -- Midwest Book Review
