After two tours in Vietnam and twenty years with the Secret Service, Frank Noble has turned his back on society and moved to the woods above L.A. in search of a little peace. Life is good for Frank. He has his dog, Bones, and a family of bears living close by that has accepted Frank into their lives; they even enjoy the classical music he plays on his portable stereo.
But Frank’s peace is short lived as one day he discovers the mutilated bodies of two of the bears. With the help of a fellow recluse–a dwarf by the name of Marcell–Frank sets out after the poachers, only to discover a trail that leads way beyond the killers into the seamy underworld of animal parts, drugs and child prostitution.

From the Author:
The genesis of this novel was an article I read in the L.A. Times about a group of animal poachers who were busted in the Angeles National Forest. They were killing black bears and selling their parts internationally for huge sums of money. The poachers were also involved in prostitution and weapon sales. I wondered what might happen if these poachers killed some bears and someone took it personal and went looking for them. The result is Animal Rites.

Michael Panno is a professional musician currently recording and touring with The Tractors. A native of Illinois, Mr. Panno now resides with his wife in Southern California.
