From the Inside Flap:
DEDICATION

This book is dedicated to the faces I hope we will all see one day.

First, Seaver ~ a young boy ravaged by cancer. I learned more about life than about cancer in my short relationship with him. His addicting smile, even in end stages of cancer, will remain a lesson for me my entire life. Before his death, he shared with me his after-life expectation of becoming heaven’s gatekeeper. Today, many years later, I am convinced that in order to see the face of God, we will all first see the face of Seaver. If you knew this brave young boy as I did, your walk on earth would be carefully planned so as to witness the smiles on their faces.

I also dedicate this book to Dr. Beverly Hunt ~ her painstaking work, even in the face of sweemingly insurmountable odds, never went unnoticed. Almost six years of her life has been spent in completion of this book. With childlike candor, Beverly kept my nose to the grindstone, night after night, weekend after weekend. All the while, Beverly was convinced that completing the book you hold in your hands would save peoples lives. Rarely does one meet an individual with such talent and steadfast dedication. I am humbled to be her friend.

To Alice, my mother, and to John, my father ~ know that you allowed this discovery by constantly "raising the bar." You each told me that no matter what I did with my life, I was expected to do it better than anyone else. Thank you for your vigilance.

To Ruth, my wife, and my sons Evan and Ethan ~

I know a lot of time was missed in writing this book that perhaps should have been spent with you. Thank you for the encouragement you lent. You have unselfishly assisted in completing this book so that others may benefit by heeding it.

I love you dearly.

Finally, to David ~ without whom this book may never have been written. Thank you.

About the Author:
Doug Kaufmann, a nationally recognized author, lecturer, television and radio show host, has over 30 years of experience in diversified healthcare. Kaufmann developed the first United States medical laboratory that correlated a broad range of medical symptoms and diseases with food and fungus.

His medical career began when he was chosen to go through medical corps school while in the U.S. Navy. He graduated from the hospital corps school in 1969, was trained extensively in emergency medicine and in late 1970 was sent to Vietnam where he was attached to The Seventh Marine Division as a Navy hospital corpsman. His tour of Vietnam culminated with orders to The First Medical Battalion in Danang, Vietnam. Kaufmann earned such combat decorations as the Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry and the Vietnam Service Medal with one bronze star.

Following his honorable discharge, Kaufmann became certified by the American Society of Allergy Technicians (ASAT) and worked in the allergy and immunology field with a Los Angeles allergist. A course in food allergy taken at the Washington University School of Medicine in 1974 would alter his career. While avoiding certain allergic foods, many of their patients had their nasal allergies, for which they were taking weekly allergy shots, completely disappear. Doug realized that food was either a potent allergen that caused serious disease, or conversely, a medicine that could treat autoimmune diseases. Of course, the latter has now been documented within the scientific literature. He co-investigated several research papers with doctors at USC Medical School in L.A.

In 1979, Doug opened Physicians Laboratories, Inc. in Los Angeles. This laboratory was involved in food and fungal research and had a staff of 4 research Immunologists. The first ELISA tests for food allergy were created in this laboratory as well as significant research aimed at better understanding the food-disease link.

A physician group in Dallas, Texas recruited Kaufmann in 1987, after they learned of his laboratory technology. While utilizing this technology for determining fungal diseases, an amazing discovery resulted. When being treated for fungal infections many patients with various diseases, thought to be incurable, responded favorably to dietary changes and antifungal drugs.

Kaufmann began broadcasting his discoveries on radio in Texas in 1992. This early radio success spawned a national television show within 7 years. In 1999, FamilyNet Television began producing and broadcasting Kaufmann’s show, YOUR HEALTH, nationwide. The show is presently carried in 180+ cities via independently owned television stations as well as satellite, including Time Warner, Comcast, Cox and Adelphia, throughout the United States. The show empowers and educates the general public on "owning" their own health. His TV show was awarded the coveted Bronze Telly award in 2003 and the Chicago based Total Living Network honored the show with The Ministry of the Month award in March 2003. Additionally, Kaufmann can be heard on over 200 radio stations daily on FamilyNet radio. His "At A Glance" vignettes are very popular with listeners.

Kaufmann published The Food Sensitivity Diet in 1984, The Fungus Link in 2000, The Germ That Causes Cancer in 2002 and Infectious Diabetes in 2003. Each book offers an alternative viewpoint to prevailing medical thought on the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Whether researching the "cause" or educating the masses, Kaufmann's proudest accomplishments have not occurred in science laboratories, broadcasting booths or boardrooms. He is the proud father of two boys and Ruth’s spouse for 23 years. Truly, these are his greatest achievements.
