This story is written from an Irish point of view. It is a strong narrative about the thunder, plunder and injustice Britain visited upon Ireland from the twelfth century onward. Its forceful commentary highlights England's denial and violation of Ireland's dream for independence and self-government. The strength of the commentary reflects the difficulty Ireland has had in breaking the eight-hundred-year-old tether connecting her to England. But, in hoping to retain a reasonable level of historical accuracy, I have tried not to embellish the facts surrounding Ireland's role in its rebellion nor distort Britain's part in the encounter. The principal events happened much as I describe them, though I admit to taking licence with some of the details within those historical occurrences. Aran's adventures are offered as a medium for detailing the chronology of happenings surrounding the 1916 Easter Rising and the 1919-1921 Irish War of Independence.
