From 1954-1981 the Department of Justice published seven editions of Proving Federal Crimes. But in the twenty years since the book was last published by the Department of Justice, much more than just the law has changed. Now, federal agents and prosecutors work together at the inception of the investigation and 80% of the federal prosecutor's job takes place before he/she goes to court. This private commercial edition of Proving Federal Crimes is the first book ever written for both law enforcement agents and litigators. Beginning with structuring the investigation, PFC devotes the first ten chapters to evidence gathering techniques and includes handling informants, search warrants and wiretaps, how to prevent suspects from becoming fugitives, obtaining foreign evidence, digital evidence, computerized crime scene re-enactments, how to trace emails and virtually every investigative technique is revealed in this book. PFC then takes agents and litigators, step by step, through the grand jury and the trial process. Learn what the federal prosecutor's published policy guidelines are for initiating cases. With this book you will never be lost in the federal criminal justice system. PFC contains materials from federal law enforcement agency manuals, the U.S. Attorneys' Manual, the Federal Judges' Benchbook, and even material from the Federal Defenders' publications. Prepare and present successful cases with Proving Federal Crimes.

From the Publisher:
I was a federal agent for 30 years. If only a book like this existed when I was making cases my job would have been easier and I would have been far more effective. Mr. Nissman has done agents and lawyers a great public service with this book. Robert H. Burch, President, Corpus Juris Publishing Co. Peter Anderson, law enforcement agent: NEWSFLASH-Federal Agent willing to spend personal money! "I have been in Criminal Law Enforcement investigations for almost thirty years. I have graduated from every conceivable class except Lamaze at both FLETC's (Georgia & New Mexico). This is the first book that I would be willing to spend my own money on because it saves me what is fast becoming my most valuable commodity, time. Takes agents and lawyers through the whole criminal process from the start of the investigation to the end of trial. Its all here. Convoys travel at the speed of the slowest boat and God knows that we have some glacial Federal Agents. They desperately need this. Worker Bee's will be able to get the job done both faster and better with this book. Trainers will do their job better. It's as simple as that." Jim Peters, Attorney "Presents complex issues in a straightforward manner that will be as useful to agents in the field as it is to attorneys in the courtroom."

Treston Moore Defense attorney & former law professor "A must have for all litigators."

From the Author:
The Department of Justice released the book to the public many years ago. For a long time I harbored a secret desire to bring it back to life for my colleagues. Working on my own time, the Department of Justice has graciously allowed me to create my own commercial version of this book. Since there is an abundance of high quality material already in the public domain that lawyers, agents, and judges have metuculously, researched, debated, and created, I believe that the best federal trial book should draw heavily from these treatises. I have assembled this public domain material from the Federal Judicial Center, the FBI, the Secret Service, the Federal Defenders' publications, and from the United States Attorneys' Manual and the United States Attorneys' Bulletin. While I have written much of this book, many others have made contributions, and I view my principal role as the compiler of the best material in the public domain by the best and brightest lawyers, judges, and agents of our day. While Proving Federal Crimes relies on many official texts, it is important to point out that to the extent that any views are expressed herein, they are not those of the Department of Justice.

It's really important to have a source of information that prosecutors, agents, defense attorneys, and judges can all use to resolve issues. Hopefully, this new edition of PFC provides a blue print of all aspects of the criminal justice system from structuring the investigation all the way to post trial proceedings.
