About the Author:
Kyus Philnesta Writer, Poet & Author Kyus was born and raised in Miami, FL. She received her Associate Degree in General Studies from Miami Dade Community College in 1982. She continued her education at Florida International University where she earned her Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice. Kyus has been working in the criminal justice field for the past 24 yrs. When Kyus was younger, she always enjoyed writing. The freedom she felt made her feel alive, worthy to be here on God s earth. Writing gave her something she could never find any other place. It was only natural that when times got hard, she wrote. . . When things were going well, she wrote. . . When she had nothing else to do, she wrote. . . As she got older, she became an ardent reader. She enjoyed being swept away by the books she read. She began developing her writing skills by writing poetry. After sharing her poems with many of her friends, she was encouraged to put them in a book. However, it was the prompting of the Holy Spirit that inspired her to publish her poems. She believes that her God-given gift was given to her for the sole purpose of being a blessing to others. She believed that God was going to bless her writing for that reason. So in 2001, she self published her first book, To the Heart of Things, a Chapbook of Poetry. Her first novel, Because of Love was birth from one of her narrative poems from her book of poetry. She is now working on her second novel, a sequel to Because of Love, at the request of her supporters. There are two things Kyus want to bring to light in her writings. First, she wants to focus on issues that change her protagonist life. She doesn t want to just write love stories, (although Because of Love is a love story) or write about the drama that goes on in relationships. She wants to take issues like rape, death, teenage pregnancy or serious illnesses like cancer and place these issues in their lives; She wants to show strong, solid relationships (marriages, friendships, families, couples) being shattered by uncontrollable events and then show how these issues is dealt with. The second thing she wants from her readers is to awaken their moral consciousness. When they find themselves facing a crisis beyond their control and must make a moral decision, do they allow what they have been taught to shape their decision, even if their heart is wrapped up in pain? Or do they allow the pain or anger or hatred or what ever the emotion is, to be the guiding factor on how the crisis is handled. She believes Because of Love does both. Kyus is also the owner of Swept Away Books, LLC. Swept Away Books was inspired by the Holy Spirit, and is a book source that promotes and sells books written by the owner. At Swept Away Books, they believe that the only thing better than being swept away with a great book is writing one! Thus the name Swept Away Books.

Urban-Review.com Because of Love was chosen to be reviewed by Urban-Review.com, one of the top African American book resource and book reviewers on the web, after submitting a synopsis and the first chapter. Because of Love received a rating of 3.5 out of 5. I was very pleased with their rating, considering it was my first attempt at writing a novel. Here s what their reviewer had to say: Relationships are hard, they require work and compromise. But what do you do when there is only one person doing all the work. . . When you give your all, and it s not being reciprocated back? What would you do in the name of love? Kyle was a hard working, Christian man. He was dedicated to his job as a police sergeant. He just purchased a new home and finally gets things back in perspective after a terrible break up with the love of his life. Kyle has a new chance at love and everything seems to be going as planned. Until someone reemerges back into his life from his past; asking for his help. Will Kyle help even though it will jeopardize his relationship? Will Kyle allow his past to enter its way into his present? Tony is Kyle s best friend and partner at the police force. Tony is a single father raising his daughter on his own, after losing his wife. Tony s family has a legacy as police officers and he has an image to uphold. Tony s world is heading in a downward spiral; when he finds out he is under internal investigation. Tony must prove his innocence when a disgruntled criminal files a complaint. Will Tony come clean to his partner and best friend about what s really going on or will he sweep things under the rug and jeopardize his friendship? Simone was in a whirlwind relationship with Kyle. Things ended on a bad note, and she is the one to blame. Several years have passed and Simone is back in town, but circumstances are different. Simone needs Kyle more than ever. The tables are turned, and Simone needs Kyle s forgiveness and support to deal with the weight on her shoulder. Will Simone gain the forgiveness of Kyle and get the help she most definitely needs? Because of Love was a stirring novel. The book really opened my eyes about sacrifices that one has to make even when the hurt and pain is still there. Sometimes you have to put your feelings and the past behind you to help someone who you may not have otherwise. Because of Love showed growth, courage and how to tackle something head on, regardless of the consequences. True friendship has no boundaries. In Because of Love by Kyus Philnesta, Kyle Mackey is trying to get over the devastating rejection of a marriage proposal to Simone Banister. His best friend, Tony Patterson, was by his side the whole time. They met at the police academy 15 years ago and have been friends ever since. They are now partners and have each other s back at work and personally. Kyle has been in a relationship with Lena for six months and does not know how to let go and take another chance at love. Kyle needs Tony more than ever when Simone resurfaces after three years. Simone breaks some shocking news to Kyle and she needs him to be there for her. Kyle cannot imagine why she would come to him of all people. This definitely does not help in his relationship with Lena. Meanwhile, Tony has come under investigation at the precinct. He does not inform Kyle that he too could be under investigation because of all of the drama going on with him at home. Can things get any worse? Will Kyle help Simone in her time of trouble? What will become of his new relationship with Lena? Will his friendship with Tony be able to endure this investigation? Philnesta tells a story of love until death. It was a good story but I felt it could have had a better climatic point in the plot. There was room for more entertainment. The message in the story was touching. I look forward to reading more from Philnesta. This book was provided by the author for review purposes. Donnica Copeland APOOO BookClub --APOOO BookClub
I finally read your book and what a wonderful book it was!!!!! If I could give you an award for your writing (book), I would because I thought it was just that good/great. I think it was well written and could be compared to such writers as Kimberla Lawson Roby and Carl Webber. I enjoyed how easy it was to read, the twists it offered and oh, the illusions. I think it leaves room to a sequel into the lives of Lena and Kyle getting married and their lives thereafter, etc. I like the strong family support that both Kyle and Tony had as well as their true, tried and tested friendship. Oh, and you really did your homework when it came to your research. You provided clear information of symptoms, treatment and its effects. Oh and the medical terminology and name of medicine was right on target. There were sooo many good parts about the book. Keep up the good work. Angela --Supporter
