From the Inside Flap:
Reader’s Remarks

Fred Dungan's story is told in Chapter 18. He took a 50 caliber hit through his chest just after he shot down his 7th plane.

Robbie, Your book just arrived and it deeply touched me. Thank you so very much for your talent and thoughtfulness in documenting the most memorable time of my life. I am really moved and so grateful to you. My memory of those epic days we shared is so fresh that it all seems like it just happened yesterday. - Fred Dungan - San Clemente, California

"I started reading Navy Wings of Gold at 7:00 p.m. and didn't put it down until I finished it at 1:00 in the morning. This book is PURE GOLD! No one who wasn't there could have written about these experiences with such fascinating detail." - Robert Franklin - Sylmar, California

“I grew up being fascinated by my dad's World War II scrapbook. Now I have the personal accounts behind the newspaper clippings and photos. Hearing Dad read the stories was something special. It gave me a far deeper appreciation and understanding of what my parents experienced during those historic times. I would love to have the book on tape!” - Gail Robinson Van Camp - San Diego, California

"I'm so excited about Navy Wings of Gold! People will find this book mesmerizing. I have highlighted many of the passages with a green marker and dog-eared pages that I especially want to share. It's terrific!" - Gwen Graham - Teacher of English, Beverly Hills High School

"There are so many amazing stories in Navy Wings of Gold. . . another ‘Mash’ series, but with more depth, or ‘JAG’ with deeper meaning. WOW!” - Anne Knight - Edmonds, Washington

Leonard Muskin’s story is told in Chapter 16.

Robbie, I believe you and I had a few things in common in that we were both pretty good carrier pilots (maybe modestly even two of the best), and that we both had experiences that were very unusual. These account for our still being around and active all these many years after those happenings. Maybe we each had a lucky angel sitting on our shoulders - who knows?

Lucy started reading Navy Wings of Gold and of all things she started to cry. She reads two or three books a week and I don't recall her ever crying so it must have some real merit...

Your account of my torpedo attack on the largest battleship in the world, and that amazing encounter with the SB2C ghost plane happened just the way you so vividly write. Navy Wings of Gold is an exciting book. I am proud and humbled to be included. - Leonard Muskin, Chapter 16 - Beverly Hills, California

“Navy Wings of Gold has an appealing sensitivity not found in other World War II accounts I have read. An emotional impact and involvement is generated that is powerful. Women as well as men will respond. This book is a winner.” - John Angus, Author/Publisher - Boise, Idaho

“Dr. Robinson's experiences during W.W.II and his career as a naval aviator in particular are awesome! As I read his exciting adventures, it seemed like I was right there in the cockpit next to Robbie! The other aviation stories he includes are the icing on the cake! This is a must read!” - Richard Keelor, Ph.D. - Washington, D.C.

Robbie, I have just finished reading your book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was curious if you ever knew that on that day, January 30, 1944, when they sounded "Flight Quarters" the whole Ready Room manned the catwalks, because we knew you had been out on a sub-contact for five hours and were low on fuel. Tangas came aboard, and then we saw you go "in" on the base leg, and saw the geysers and heard the explosion of the depth charges. We were stunned. I was sure you were dead but, as in any emergency, you don't concentrate on things that have happened, but on what is about to happen ... - Bob Minney

Robbie, Thanks for your book! I read it on the flight on the way back from Boise. At a couple of points I had to fight back the tears! I tried not to let anyone see me or they may have thought something odd. There were some great stories in it. I want to say thanks for the sacrifice. It is heroic men like you and the many others who answered the call and stepped up to the plate in order to defend our way of life. I truly know that today I am living in the blessing of the price you paid. I will always continue to tell this great story so that every generation will remember. You are one of my heroes! - Commander Craig Goodman, USNR

“I haven't been able to get the book away from the young fellas in my family. They weren't alive but they have heard stories and are fascinated. History alive is captivating them. I can't wait to have the book to myself! Such a great story. Thanks.” - Beverly Gast, - Philadelphia, PA
