From the Inside Flap:
The time is 1929 and the very existence of Linn Creek, Missouri is threatened by the plans for a massive dam by people indifferent to its 800 inhabitants and to the natural beauty of the area.Deputy Sheriff, and want-to-be lawyer, Joel Dean Gregory has his hands full with not only a whisky war and a jailbreak, but someone has killed the one man the town needs the most. The dam project complicates Joel Dean's vow to capture the killer, save the town and help a tantalizing young woman, Estelle Earnhardt, with her problems. His dedication to putting things right provides a beginning--and maybe an end--to his career as a lawyer when he defends the accused killer. But more than the accused killer is on trial here and retribution comes from unexpected sources to unsuspecting victims.Providing the background of this fast-paced novel of mystery, suspense and romance are the actual plans and manipulations of the people who set out to build the largest man-made lake in the country in the scenic Ozark hill country.
