Review:
One of the joys of reviewing golf books is discovering a title that is truly special and then having the wonderful opportunity to communicate that to others. Well, in the tradition of the great teachers like Harvey Penick who invariably make the complex simple, Southern California golf instructor Bobby Steiner (head teaching professional at the Westin Mission Hills in Rancho Mirage, CA) accomplishes as much with his book. It chronicles a golfer s journey from a novice to a tournament playing scratch player through the special characters who mentored him along the way. It is both a great story as well as one of the most readable instructional golf books you will ever encounter. It addresses not only how to swing a club, but also how to play the game, with life lessons lurking in the background. I have no personal experience of Bobby Steiner, but he must surely be both a wonderful storyteller as well as an exceptional golf instructor. No matter where you are in your golfing development beginning novice to accomplished professional, this is a book you will truly enjoy and find difficult to put down; and you will hardly realize you are being taught. Imagine that for a golf instruction book! --Golf Today Magazine
This book is magical, insightful, and fun, and it should be read by everyone who plays the game of golf, everyone who is thinking of playing the game of golf, and certainly by everyone currently taking lessons to improve their ability to play the game of golf. If I was a golf pro I'd either buy a copy for every one of my students and make them read it before we got started, or I'd burn the book because it might put me out of business. If I were you, I'd get my hands on a copy and read it before heading out to play another round of golf or hit another bucket of balls. There really aren't very many books that inspire and encourage people to play golf, but Munie: The Jitterbug Collection does. Buy a copy and there's a good chance you'll even hear from the author himself, and an even better chance, will become one of your favorite golf books. You'll read it again & again & again. --Golf America Magazine
Bobby Steiner's book is the best I have ever read on not only golf fundamentals, but also how to play the game, the mental part. Only great teachers understand the importance of this. Bobby teaches his profound lessons through stories of very unique and interesting characters on a Southern Municipal course. For all who love the game and want to improve, I highly recommend this book. You will just plain enjoy it! --Anne Sander --Three time US Amateur Champion
